About Course
What it is: The TACHS (Test for Admission into Catholic High Schools) is used by Catholic high schools in the Archdiocese of New York and the Diocese of Brooklyn/Queens (and select surrounding areas).
Purpose: Evaluates readiness in Reading, Language (grammar & written expression), Mathematics, and Ability (reasoning/visual-spatial) for admission and placement.
Who takes it: Typically 8th graders applying for 9th-grade admission.
Test format: Multiple-choice; mix of comprehension, grammar/editing, computation, word problems, and reasoning items.
TACHS Prep Options
● TACHS Skills Prep (6 Months):
Strand-by-strand instruction with diagnostics, progress checks, and strategy labs.
● TACHS Crash Course (8 Weeks):
Focused review on highest-value topics and pacing, with timed drills.
● TACHS 1:1 Intensive (Flexible):
Customized plan (e.g., Ability boost, Math focus) with flexible scheduling.
All formats are offered virtually in small groups or 1:1. For convenience and content overlap, COOP, HSPT, and TACHS are taught together in combined sections.
Skills Development
✅ Reading Comprehension: Students read passages and answer questions that test theirability to understand and interpret texts. Questions may focus on main ideas, details, inferences, and the meaning of words in context.
✅ Vocabulary: Vocabulary questions assess the ability to understand word meanings and identify synonyms and antonyms. These questions test vocabulary in isolation, rather than in a passage context.
✅ Grammar and Usage: Questions focus on grammar rules, including subject-verb agreement, sentence structure, punctuation, and parts of speech.
✅ Spelling: Some questions assess spelling knowledge, requiring students to identify correctlyspelled words or correct misspellings.
✅ Capitalization and Punctuation: Students may be asked to correct capitalization and punctuation errors within sentences or phrases
✅ Basic Arithmetic: Covers addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, including problems with fractions and decimals.
✅ Algebra: Includes solving equations, working with expressions, and understanding basic algebraic principles.
✅ Geometry: Tests knowledge of shapes, area, perimeter, and other fundamental geometry concepts.
✅ Word Problems: Students must interpret and solve word problems that require critical thinking and multi-step calculations.
✅ Sequences and Patterns: Students must identify patterns in sequences of numbers, shapes, or letters.
✅ Analogies: Tests the ability to identify relationships between pairs of words or images.
✅ Logical Reasoning: Includes questions that require deductive reasoning and logical thinking to identify solutions or determine relationships among figures or concepts.
